Our Story

About Windmill Retreats

We’re a second-generation farm and proud to share our home with guests looking to slow down and enjoy the countryside. Surrounded by rolling fields, peaceful sunrises, and friendly animals, it’s a great place to switch off and reconnect with nature.

Alongside our glamping site, we run a working farm where we rear 240 Holstein Friesian calves. Each one is raised with care from birth through to 24 months, before being sold on to dairy farms as healthy, well-grown milking heifers.

It’s a busy but rewarding life – and we love giving guests a glimpse into what we do, whether that’s meeting the Highland cows or simply enjoying the stars from their bed.

Meet Mark and Jo

We’re Mark and Jo, the husband-and-wife team behind Windmill Retreats. This dream began with a simple idea; to create a place where people could experience the joy of glamping on a farm and give them the chance to connect with nature and enjoy life at a slower pace.

For Mark, this land has always been home. His parents were dairy farmers, and after spending years working as an agricultural contractor, he dreamed of returning to his roots. Mark took charge of building the glamping huts and domes himself, ensuring every guest could enjoy the breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside.

While expecting twins, Jo was right there alongside Mark, painting walls and getting the farm ready for guests. A few days after giving birth, the farm welcomed its first visitors, and we’ve never looked back.

Together, we have created a place where you can swap screens for scenic views and truly relax, recharge and reset. If you’re ready to experience a true farm stay glamping escape, explore our geodomes and shepherd huts, and start planning your stay in the beautiful Yorkshire Dales.
